One piece of advice: Introduce yourself and make connections with your professors. Your professors are a great resource for you to be successful academically and professionally while you are in university and even after you graduate. The close-knit community experience and the wonderful opportunities that Saint Mary’s provides for students to get engaged and make a positive impact both locally and globally is amazing.

From: Jamaica

Prounouns: She/Her/E'pite's

Program: BSc Psychology and Biology

My goal: To make African Descent/Black students feel welcomed into Saint Mary’s community. Many students are reluctant to attend university due to the fear of black alienation, limited support and resources, and the feeling that they can’t see themselves in this space. However, my hope is to alleviate those thoughts and feelings, and for students to know that they will have access to equal opportunities despite their cultural background and socioeconomic status.
